Meet the Writer and Director, Sam Das
Sam Das, the writer and director of our movie Cruelty Film, is a first-generation Asian American screenwriter and director of mixed Indian and East Asian descent. He was born and raised in the Bronx. He studied psychology and film at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts before earning an MFA from the USC School of Cinematic Arts. While working as a script reader for Mandalay Films, Sam's script The Confection Connection achieved top placements on The Hit List and The Young & Hungry List, won the Launch Pad Feature Competition, and secured a spot in the CAPE New Writers Fellowship.

He has also been a finalist for the Sundance Screenwriters Lab / Asian-American Fellowship and received the Craft Awards for Screenwriting and Directing at the First Run Festival. Represented by UTA, Sam has written for Sony Pictures and developed projects with MGM, Disney, and Pearl Studio. He resides in Los Angeles with his partner and their daughter.
