SYNOPSIS
A young woman is chased into a junkyard while followed home late at night. Trapped among the heaps of scraps she must outwit her predator and conjure up the strength of a goddess in her desperate fight for survival.
CRUELTY is a terrifying cinematic experience following one woman's desperate fight for survival. The film explores themes of male aggression and female empowerment, reimagining a timeless tale from ancient India in a breathtaking new form.
SAM DAS
Sam Das is a first-generation Asian American screenwriter and director of mixed Indian and East Asian descent.
Born and raised in The Bronx, Sam attended New York University's Tisch School of the Arts where he studied psychology and film. Later, he got an MFA from The USC School of Cinematic Arts while working as a script reader for Mandalay Films. His script THE CONFECTION CONNECTION earned him top placements on The Hit List and The Young & Hungry List, won the Launch Pad Feature Competition, and landed him a spot in the CAPE New Writers Fellowship.
Prior to that, Sam was a finalist for the Sundance Screenwriters Lab / Asian-American Fellowship and was a winner of the Craft Awards for Screenwriting and Directing at the First Run Festival. Repped by UTA, Sam has written an original feature film for Sony Pictures and developed projects with MGM, Disney, and Pearl Studio, among many others.
Sam lives in Los Angeles with his partner and their daughter.
